George Booth, Group CPO, Lloyds Banking Group

George is a transformational business leader with 25 years’ experience across a breadth of global organisations in hi-tech manufacturing and financial services. As the group CPO of Lloyds Banking Group, his mid-term ambition is to ensure his team is at the heart of the business driving the Group’s digital transformation through leveraging its supply chains.

George has been with LBG for 11 years. As group CPO he reports into the Group Executive Committee. He leads a team of 300 professionals, managing c7500 suppliers. Prior to this, he was the director of IT & digital sourcing for three years.  He has always been at the leading edge of technology transformation, recently building the sourcing strategies for ITO offshore, cloud services, robotics/cognitive/AI and within the FinTech supply market. He took on the CPO role in 2017 and is focusing on digital transformation, supply chain assurance and value creation from supply markets.

George also sits on the senior leaders group, which is led by the Group CEO.  He is the deputy ambassador for Scotland and deputy chair for the Scottish executive committee where he has been an active member for five years, an LGBT ally and regularly leads at political, community and colleague events. He is comfortable operating at CXO level, versatile and commercially astute, recognised by the executive teams he works with as a strong transformational leader.

George has the ability to quickly understand business strategy and priorities. Coupled with his deep understanding of the global supply markets, this enables George and his teams to build benchmark solutions that drive competitive advantage.  He always acts with the customer in mind, has strong values, acts with integrity, builds organisational capability, cultivates strong group-wide networks, operates at pace and had demonstrated resiliency through multiple organisational and market transitions.

George suggests that continuing to move the traditional perception of procurement into more of a business consultancy partner will allow the function to continue to develop its influence and deliver optimal value and risk assurance from an ever complex supply chain.

Key achievements at LBG include a technology transformation to establish the group’s cloud strategy, saving £800m over 10 years; upskilling the IT and digital sourcing team, with a focus on talent development and championing women; and leading the a new sourcing strategy for IT.

George has a 1st class honours degree in economics and marketing. He joined Hewlett Packard’s graduate business programme in 1993, going on to hold several global leadership roles.
