CLAIRE COSTELLO, CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER, THE CO-OP

Having joined the Co-op in September 2019, Claire leads the group procurement function, reports directly to the CFO and is a key member of the Co-op leadership group. 


Her team provides procurement services to the entire Co-op Group including retail, NISA, funeral care, health and insurance, and she is also responsible for end-to-end risk management for goods not for resale spend. Claire was attracted to the role at the Co-op because it provides both the ability and need to be incredibly commercial while simultaneously aligning with the Co-op values and vision – ‘Co-operating for a fairer world’.                     


Prior to the Co-op, Claire worked across Asda and Wal-mart for 23 years, setting up, establishing and leading the Asda procurement team. As well as sharing learning and experiences with wider Walmart international markets to grow procurement support and influence, Claire also held a UK-based role leading the Wal-Mart US IT Sourcing team, working remotely with teams across four countries to deliver procurement value and supplier management for the IT requirements as the sourcing product owner within the global business services organisation.


Claire is passionate about creating strong partnerships through engaged, skilled and driven teams, with collaborative challenges across the business and supply chains forming part of true co-operation.
