Daniel Helmig is an Operations leader with 20 years experience in Automotive Supply Chain at Ford Motor Company in the UK, Germany and the USA, five years as Chief Procurement Officer in the Electronic industry (Infineon Technologies AG/ Qimonda), and latest 10 years as Group Head Supply Chain, later Quality & Operations of Power & Automation Leader Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) with 135’000 employees.
Recently, Daniel took over the lead of the largest transformation of ABB since the merger between Asea and Brown Boveri, including a JV build up involving 25% of the corporation and moving ABB matrix-free set-up, with a lean Corporate center and four entrepreneurial businesses, which run Operations as Performance Centers and zero distance to customers.
Over the last years Daniel’s team:
- Implemented Lean Six Sigma in 18 months in 240 manufacturing operations, engaging 50’000+ employees in improving the quality focus;
- Consolidated a 20 BUSD supply chain operation from a tactical, local organization to a strategic global power house with 200+ Category teams, centralized Global Business Services for procurement in five low cost countries, centralized & virtualized strategic sourcing,
- Pulled Transport management from hundreds of plants into 10 control towers
Before, and even during this transformation, ABB Supply Chain Management performed at top quartile cost savings levels according external benchmarks.
Daniel holds an MBA from Michigan State University, USA. He is married, has two grown sons, and lives near Zürich, Switzerland.
