Rob Woodstock, Chief Commercial Officer, HMRC

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have approx 58,000 FTE staff and are the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority, with a vital purpose: collecting the money that pays for the UK’s public services and helping families and individuals with targeted financial support. This is an exciting time to be working in HMRC, currently undergoing one of the most significant transformations in Government making use of digital tools and consolidating the workforce into 13 regional centres and specialist sites across the UK. HMRC’s Estates transformation alone is probably one of the biggest and most complex of its type anywhere in Europe.
Rob’s role is to give strategic leadership, vision and direction and is accountable for all commercial arrangements covering HMRC’s c£1.5 billion annual external spend and its strategy for relationships with customer facing intermediaries in the tax ecosystem.  Rob’s team have provided critical commercial support to HMRC’s Customs operations as they prepare for EU Exit.
Rob is a member of the Cabinet Office’s Government Commercial Organisation, which recruits, retains and develops senior commercial professionals to operate in departments and across government. He is also a member of the Commercial Function Leadership Group, which is leveraging government's position in key supplier markets and raising capability levels of commercial professionals across govt.
Before joining HMRC, Rob was a Managing Director at Accenture from 2006-2017.  He worked with Executive Teams on operational transformation programmes across the Financial Services, Telco, Media and Public Health sectors.  He has extensive international experience and enjoyed working in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and the Netherlands.
Alongside his commercial responsibilities Rob also led Accenture UK’s Inclusion and Diversity programme for four years and was a champion of the Ethnic Networks across the organisation.
Rob holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Birmingham University and is a keen guitarist.
