
Rory Lamont
Chief Procurement Officer, Hitachi Rail
Passionate about leading in business turnaround or complex delivery environments, Rory operates at board-level to deliver improved business performance via the supply chain.
With deep industry and consulting experience, he has lead successful transformation projects in process and manufacturing industries, working across people, culture, process and technology to reinvent teams.
Rory was appointed Group Chief Procurement Officer for Hitachi Rail in 2018, after joining the business as UK Procurement Director in 2017. Today he leads 380 procurement professionals across the Americas, Europe and Asia, including Japan in support of Hitachi’s transportation business, covering train manufacture and maintenance, as well as signalling, ticketing and turnkey projects.
In 2019, 2020 and again in 2021, hr was recognised as one of the Top 50 LGBT+ Allies in Oustanding’s annual awards, one of the only CPOs to repeatedly recognised for his commitment to diversity and inclusion.
In 2019, Rory was made a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply and an Executive Officer of Hitachi in 2020.
He started his career in Aberdeen, working for BP and gained experience in the procurement of goods and services as well as procurement processes & technology in the subsequent four years.
Following this, he joined Accenture where he had wide-ranging exposure to many industries, whilst developing a professional focus on procurement and supply chain management. Rory worked across Libya, Syria, Holland, Canada and the UK, as part of Petro-Canada’s Procurement leadership team in 2009, before re-joining BP in 2011.
